Gora Oljka

Gora Oljka

Gora Oljka is a 733-meter-high isolated karst mountain that rises above Šmartno ob Paki and offers charming views of the surrounding area. At the top stands the pilgrim church of St. Cross built in the 18th century. With its specialty - two bell towers - it shows the location of the place to travelers from all directions from afar. Gora Oljka (The Mount of Olives) got its name from the painting of Jesus on the Mount of Olives from the main altar of the church. Just a few meters below the summit, there is a mountain lodge, which is open every day except Mondays. As befits a popular pilgrimage and excursion point, several paths lead to Mount Oljka. From Šmartne ob Paki you can climb from Podgora and Rečica ob Paki, and it is also one of the stops on the Martin's route. Every first Sunday in May, the traditional Smarška Sunday with Holy Mass takes place on Gora Oljka.
